Scenic & Recreational Opportunities
Besides the recreational opportunities listed elsewhere on this website, there are many chances to go hiking and take in the scenery in the Coosa Valley. The two single best places to hike in the Coosa Valley are Little River Canyon and Talladega National Forest, particulary around Mt. Cheaha (the highest point in Alabama). With the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains beginning here in the Coosa watershed, there are tons of great trails for hiking: the Pinhoti, Chinnabee Silent Trail, Chief Ladiga, and the Swayback Mountain Trail (Wetumpka). Mt. Cheaha, along the Talladega National Forest Scenic Highway, is a great family location with a restaurant, swimming pool, lodging, and great hiking.
